The entry above almost ends with Richard Preston and The Wild Trees, and him not being able to make it.

For those who read the book, you know there were no photos of the trees. Try these redwood images on for size – same trees:

It’s doubtful that I’ll be bumping into Preston at any community center or library, but if the opportunity arose, I’d have a couple of questions.
