Doyle Wins the Thurber

Larry Doyle has won the Thurber Prize for American Humor for his novel, I Love You, Beth Cooper (2007). Patricia Marx (Him Her Him Again the End of Him, 2007) and Simon Rich (Ant Farm and Other Desperate Situations, 2007) were the runners-up. From the AP (“D’oh! Ex-’Simpsons’ writer wins $5,000 prize“):
“Clearly Larry Doyle was not the BMOC (Big Man On Campus),” Thurber judge Firoozeh Dumas said in a statement. “Had Larry been cool, he could have never written `I Love You, Beth Cooper,’ a hilarious yet painfully accurate account of high school in all its pimply glory.”
A great start to the awards season–but I’ll bet the Nobel Prize pick will be even funnier. Possibly even bonkers.

Chicago-area native, and University of Illinois grad – local boy does good. Nice work, Larry!
