Nam Le Wins the Dylan Thomas
Posted by: Courtney Jones

Mr. Le will take home the $92,000 prize for his short story collection, The Boat.  Drawing from his personal history helped wow the judges:

The chair of the Dylan Thomas Prize judging panel, Peter Florence, said Le’s work “demonstrated a rare brilliance that is breathtaking both in the scope of its subject matter and the quality of its writing”.

“Nam tackles his own background and circumstances as well as that of others with a clear eye, focused intelligence and wonderful use of words,” Mr Florence said.

“He is, in this panel’s opinion, a phenomenal literary talent, and I look forward to following his career as it progresses.” (From The Australian)

The Dylan Thomas Prize, awarded to a writer under 30, announced the Aussie as the winner earlier today. The shortlist included Caroline Bird (Trouble Came to the Turnip), Ceridwen Dovey (Blood Kin), Edward Hogan (Blackmoor), Dinaw Mengestu (Children of Revolution), Ross Raisin (God’s Own Country).
