There are a limited number of confidence games out there, just as there are a limited number of stories to be told. It's all in the details--and, indeed, the twists.

Wonderful, wonderful story. At first I was concerned about the same con that was used in 'Paper Moon,' but I loved the twist Johnson put on the story. Longmire is always smarter and nicer than I give him credit for.

Good story, I like the character of the sheriff and I like the forgiveness theme. But I was disappointed that he used the same bible scam used in the movie "Paper Moon". It fit in well with the death of his wife and the fact that his wife was a person who might have bought a bible.

Craig is the best. My predecessor here at the Meeteetse Branch Library was the first Wyoming librarian to ask him to come do a talk, and he still tours Wyoming libraries every year, for his original price: some gas money and a six-pack of Rainier ale, cans preferred.

I think Johnson comes across well on the page and in public. (He was first to speak on our panel at the Montana Festival of the Book, and after he had the audience in stitches, none of us wanted to go next.) Can't say I know him well, but he strikes me as being a genuinely nice guy. What do you find annoying about him (or his writing)?

Thanks, Keir, for sharing your Christmas gift. For me, Johnson is fascinating and annoying at the same time, however, I can't stop reading his stories or stop listening to him speak (having heard him at more than one reading). One thing for sure, he can spin a tale. (smiling here) Is he as nice as he seems?
