So Many Unusual Authors, So Little Time
Posted by: Keir Graff

I’ve been wanting to read a book by Harry Stephen Keeler for years, ever since I stumbled across him at Find a Grave. (Yes, I’m morbid, but I was just looking for famous people buried in Chicago–turns out he was buried a few blocks from where I was then living.) Having discovered that the McSweeney’s imprint, Collins Books, reprinted The Riddle of the Traveling Skull, I’ve ordered a copy, so the book can at least take it’s place on my tottering to-read pile.

But I had never even heard of Richard Sharpe Shaver until stumbling across a reference earlier this week. I’m not sure I want to actually read his work, but I sure enjoyed reading about him. Two odd and fascinating writers, both of whom enjoyed some popularity during their day . . . now relegated to the fringes of history.
