Obama to Vampires: The ‘Galaxy’ is Mine
Posted by: Courtney Jones

The Guardian announced the Galaxy British Book Awards shortlist under the fantastic headline (which I’ve plagiarized from Keir who stole it from the Guardian) Obama battles vampires for Galaxy Prize. The shortlist pits The Audacity of Hope against Stephanie Meyer’s final installment in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn. I think the studio execs should just go ahead and make the movie. I can see the poster now–Obama delivering Chuck Norris-style justice to the side of some vampire’s face.

Sigh.

Where was I? Oh, yeah. Since there are about nine to forty different categories (each with their own sponsor!) and about five nominees in each, I’ll just give you the highlights:

Borders Author of the Year

The Secret Scripture, by Sebastian Barry
Breaking Dawn, by Stephanie Meyer
The Audacity Of Hope, by Barack Obama

Tesco Biography of the Year

Dreams From My Father, by Barack Obama

Books Direct Crime Thriller of the Year & Waterstone’s Newcomer of the Year

Child 44, by Tom Rob Smith

Sainsbury’s Popular Fiction Award

The Outcast, by Sadie Jones

The rest you can find here.
