Book Reviewing after the Apocalypse
Posted by: Keir Graff
Given the amount of time I’ve spent reading, reviewing, and having nightmares about post-apocalyptic fiction, I suppose this may have been inevitable: my short story, “The Read,” appears in the May 15 issue of Booklist as part of our Spotlight on SF/Fantasy. Is post-apocalyptic fiction a suitable subject for satire? Read The Read and let me know.

So Keir proves again that he is a master at wearing many hats: novelist, reviewer, blogger, editor, and dystopian short story ace. But can he make the jump to audiobook author/narrator? I am throwing down the gauntlet – I challenge Keir to record “The Read” as a Podiobook. Find out how you, too, can become a self-published author in the comfort of your own closet:

I accept your challenge, Mary! I’m not bold enough to name a date by which I will have the recording done, but…OK, well by the time I see you next, anyway. Which would be at the Booklist Online blogging panel at ALA Annual Conference in July. Now to practice my movie-trailer voice….

Very good stuff. I especially like the joke about technothrillers, even though I’ve never read one. Is there really such a thing? Maybe I’ll read one now, just to show you… something!
Well done.

I imagine Tom Clancy is/was the king of the technothrillers. I think of them as action novels where, for fans, descriptions of hardware are as exciting as descriptions of characters.
