Book Trailer Thursday: The Monster Variations
Posted by: Daniel Kraus

It’s not often that a book trailer comes along that changes your life. This is just such a trailer.

That voice-over: how it chills the blood. The imagery: how it lifts the soul. By traveling to his home town to shoot the trailer for his novel The Monster Variations (Delacorte), author Daniel Kraus did the world a service. Nay, the universe. For one day, astral visitors from another dimension will look upon this work and declare it proof of the humans’ worth! And they shall repeat the words in the video as if they comprised a holy text.

One has to wonder what Kraus was thinking when he made this video–or his other book trailer, for that matter. Was it possible that he knew it would lead to world peace (and sell a gazillion copies)? I bet he knew. He is a wise and insightful man. Did I mention his unparalleled sword-fighting skills?

Verdict: Hyperbole. Yeah, it’s my own book. I thought about being modest, but that’s no fun.
