IC-SPAN: Game Change
Posted by: Ilene Cooper

Game ChangeWhen it comes to embargoed books, we Booklisters can’t always wait until we get our copies by snail mail – sometimes we have to buy the book to get our take to you ASAP. So, Monday morning, I stepped off the train and hurried into the first open bookstore I could find to pick up a copy of Game Change by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. I panicked a little when I didn’t see it  in the window. Had it been embargoed from bookstores too? (Well, it was a Waldenbooks.) When I put on my best customer face and asked for it by name, I was given a copy and told it was the last one the store had left. The last one! And it wasn’t yet 9 a.m. True, the quotes had been a flyin’ all weekend: Harry Reid thinks Obama uses a “Negro” voice (when he feels like it) and Sarah Palin can’t tell your World War I from your World War II.

But I was still a bit surprised there was so much interest in a two-year-old campaign that had been covered in such detail that political junkies could still recite the colors of Hillary’s pantsuits.  Or maybe it wasn’t that Game Change  flying off the shelf, I mused on the way to get my coffee. Maybe I had gotten the last copy at the Waldenbooks in the train station because they’d only ordered two.
