Book Trailer Thursday: I Am Not a Serial Killer
Posted by: Daniel Kraus
You’ve heard me repeatedly express frustration with the omnipresent photos/voiceover/music template. But what do I know? The trailer for Dan Wells’ I Am Not a Serial Killer (Tor) not only proves that it can be done, but makes a case that, if you have a high-concept subject, it may be the best way to bring that subject across with the force and alacrity of a brisk pistol-whipping.
“There are two monsters in my town,” theĀ narrator says. One is a grisly serial killer. The other, though, is the 15-year-old mortician narrator himself: “I’m doing my best not to kill anyone at all.”
In just 39 seconds, Wells sets up a Hannibal Lector/Buffalo Bill battle-of-the-psychopaths, tells us one of them is a teenager, and points to all sorts of moral quagmires to come.
Verdict: Are you freaking kidding me?!? It’s a national tragedy that this book isn’t already sitting here on my desk.

Egads. That looks fantastic. Dexter for the younger set? Can’t wait!
