Achebe wins Gish Prize

chinua_achebeChinua Achebe won the $300,000 Dorothy and Lillian Gish prize, which is awarded to  “a man or woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the beauty of the world and to mankind’s enjoyment and understanding of life.” The Nigerian author’s most celebrated work, Things Fall Apart (1958), has sold more than 10 million copies. He will receive his prize at a ceremony on Oct. 27th in New York.
