Reading the Screen: The Hobbit (Finally)
Posted by: David Pitt
Back in March, I talked about the upcoming movie version of The Hobbit. Since then there have been some setbacks — the original director left the project, for example — but, according to this article at comingsoon.net, the movie’s back on, with Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson behind the camera.
A good and obvious choice, I think. The book will apparently be split into two movies, which will be filmed back-to-back. A demanding job, to be sure, but Jackson filmed the three Rings movies back-to-back-to-back, so it should be a piece of cake.
Jackson has written the screenplays, too, with his Rings collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. I think we can safely trust them to make The Hobbit something special.
If you’re curious, you can read my original post, in which I talk about some interesting Hobbit-related material, here.
