Reading the Screen: Jack Reacher Loses Six Inches?
Posted by: David Pitt
In case you haven’t been following the story, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novel One Shot is being adapted to film by Christopher McQuarrie, the writer of The Usual Suspects and Valkyrie (he also wrote and directed The Way of the Gun).
Last time we talked about this, there was a serious rumor that Tom Cruise, who stands roughly half a foot shorter than the six-foot-five Reacher, was going to be cast in the role. Well, outrage — at least in comments to my last post – was immediate and emphatic.
According to this story at Cinema Blend, Cruise’s casting is now official. I’m still not sure what to think — Cruise’s dramatic chops are underrated, but the physical mismatch seems to be a major sticking point. Maybe a set of stilts and a muscular exoskeleton?

Goodness, putting an actor who is a foot shorter in Jack Reacher’s shoes is a bad idea. How about someone like Chris Noth?

That’s crazy. Reacher is larger than life…

Tom Cruise can’t be convincing in this role. I still see Konathan Rhys Meyers morphing into it with ease…
