On Monday night, in what was sure to be a very witty and self-deprecating event, David Rakoff was awarded the James Thurber Prize for American Humor for his collection of essays, Half Empty. Here’s what our reviewer had to say about the collection:
Calling into question some of the institutions we hold closest to our hearts, and peppered with guilty, nose-crinkling laughs, this is a verbose, grandiose stockpile of sour grapes—a writerly collection to make giddy even the most erudite lover of words.
