Walter Dean Myers on Being The National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature
Posted by: Gillian Engberg

Walter Dean Myers spoke with NPR this morning about his new appointment as The Library of Congress’ National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. I loved his quote that “reading is not optional,” along with his emphasis on the importance of reading to very young children. Also great is his anecdote about his own early reading material: his mother’s “true romance” magazines. You can hear the full interview here.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the role of the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and what you think should be the ambassador’s top initiatives.
